In the Blue Room

In the blue room
The worries gather,
The walking memories,
The groan of time,
The no sleep
And the cancerous birdsong,

When blue breaks
It’s yellow
I’ll fall,

Till then the joke’s yet to split,
I’m unfit for these trials
But I’m conscious and stubborn
Like the smile of a boxer
Bent over the ropes,

A hand of hope
All blue and disfigured.

Here Now

The mirrors to the future,
Electrified turnabouts
And the fall of summer leaves,

The past dreams of a mantlepiece,
Ornaments all cracked
And the gathering of dust,

Here now and smiling,
A reason for clinging on tightly
And the moment it all somehow changed.

All the Trees Bend

Stitched loose above fields
The sky drops its nonchalence
And all the trees bend

There Are Ghosts Here Now

There are ghosts here now,
The sounds of phantom engines
Drawing up outside my home,
The smell of your skin on my linen,
Your reflection in the clock face,
Your love in all my tears.

Time was I knew what instinct meant,
Counting new birds in the sky
And resting on predictions
Of when I’d next see your smile,

But there are ghosts here now,
A hollow born from sorrow,
An amplified silence on weekends,
Something new in the wastes of this city,
The punches of inevitable endings,
Your outline all blurred in the distance.

Soft Spittle Lies

We shield ourselves with comedy
And bless the sky with laughter,

Only the earth feels our tears,
The soft spittle lies that fall from our smiles,

The dew on an opulent lawn,
The sun winking colour as it drops through the clouds

The sound at the end of a yawn.
