Mondegreens Murmur Malaise

You followed the idiots
Down to the river,

Heads under the surface,
Lectures and laughter,
The white wine
Sign here
Trick.

There were clouds
More like light shadows,
Whispering trees
And occasional
Lullabies.

Do you remember
When the songbirds
Stopped singing?

The leaves
That dropped
On the water
And seemed
To spell words?

Those words were,

Mondegreens

Murmur

Malaise.

Your cult
Is a wound
Best forgotten.
