Huddled Around Extracts

Wars end all murmured

And the victors traipse
Through smoking fields,

Blackened and charred
Like their old battle songs,

Monochrome melancholy.

The ripped sky
And the cracked moon
Roll towards sorrow,

Echoing blind
And howling
Like wolves,

Rumbling wild
As blood soaks the earth;

And here we all are
Huddled around extracts,

Unsung around history,
Befuddled by myths,

The lessons never learned
And their unctuous retellings,

Dwelling on misery,
Horror and shame,

A million swan songs
Uncut and unanswered,

World weary scars
Written large.
