An Unpleasant Relief

Posted in Poetry with tags , , , , , , , , on May 29, 2016 by dc

That death,
The finalised divorce,
The end of constipation,

The penultimate song
In a terrible show,

Time spent
With unloved ones
Who know things,

Getting back
To a dirty home,

The knowledge
You made it
In the end,

The realisation
You were right.

The Rain Sang His Songs

He left far too much
And echoed for way too long
To ever be dead,

The wind carried his whispers
And ushered his soul,

The sky dedicated colours
And the rain sang his songs,

His dreams popped as they dropped,
Caught by fans far and wide,

He was the icon all wildfire,
Electric lust and neon lights,

And now the music pauses,

Past the horizon,

Out of sight.

Into The Echoes

He walked the usual miles,
Shook all the right hands,
Made the expected sacrifices,
Ticked every box,
Spoke with eloquence and wit,
Whispered honesty where possible
And painted smiles across his face
When all the world seemed slathered
In mockery and disdain.

He climbed the mountains,
Thanked the people
Who helped him get there,
Devoted respect to the pioneers
And kissed the cheeks
Of the dreamers and sycophants,
The liars and thieves,
Hoping the happiness he’d sown
Would thrive in his new sunshine.

He sat at the top of the world,
Sucked up air intended to calm him,
Broke bread and cracked eggs,
Tried singing songs into the echoes
And praised all who ever doubted him,
Questioned the moments
That had brought him here,
Lay his head on the rocks
And just stared at the sky,

So this is politics.

An Inspiration

His success was due
To bad luck, chance,
Insanity and insults
From simpletons and thieves.

But most importantly,
It depended on desperation.
