As Time Leaks On

As time leaks on

I’ve slowly realised
That those mistakes you made,
Those rough words and edges,
Never meant to leave splinters,

Those dark, dank decisions,
Repellant and strange
Like oil on fresh water,
Never meant to leave stains.

I grow old and see patterns
In others and myself,
I speak in all the same riddles
Then gift the hurt that I’ve felt,

I take self doubt and worry
And dress them in your clothes,
Imagine parallel confusions
Then regrets sat decomposed;

There’s an ache I think we share
But a hope that heals the pain,
Like the rumble then the rhythm
Of another homeward train.
