An Old Hermit’s Song

Pleasure to him
Is a trouble dressed up
With nowhere to go,

An unexpected
Dance of disturbance

In a world where the dead
Have lost most of their meaning,

And the living
Are tickling fools.

The wrinkled idiot
In the corner of his brain

Reckons we are dealing with
The power of tormented scorpions,

A biblical mirage gone wrong.

I like to think he’s just restless,

A changeless whisper
Returning to life
As soon as panic sets in,

A turbulent thinker,

An old hermit’s song.

The Hollywood Freeway

I caught the never too truthful sycophants
Feasting on waste in the lay-bys,
The circling buzzards couldn’t get a look in.

The road let off the fizzy aroma of celebrity,
Dreams passed by like butterfly trails
And the birdsong concluded its fanfare.

Fame is fleeting and random by nature,
All multiple destinations unshackled from patterns,
As fragile as the beggars who crave it;

And here I am now in the left over dust clouds,
Choking on dirt that tastes like dead laughter,
The kind that you find on the Hollywood Freeway.

Drift

There is a music brewing slowly,
Distant songs in the mist

As dawn breaks episodically
Across the world
And drops into the void
Between our dreams.

Clocks turn in slow motion
And seconds sludge
As we pace,

Maybe our hearts are in unison,
Maybe we’re just destined to drift,

Maybe our moments sit stolen,
High on a mountain somewhere.

Chords Of Confusion

It all made sense once
Stolen moments and bright lights
Before the strings broke
