Tucked In

Posted in Poetry with tags , , , , , , , , , on February 4, 2019 by dc

Those snow basted hills
Gently smothered by morning,
Tucked in shivering,
All hidden hopes and dank thoughts,
Shocked and bewildered by light.

Winter Commute

As routine takes hold
And the days drift by,

We salute the frigid morning
And the glaze of all its touched;

Hot breath hitting
The crisp winter air,

Factory smoke affixing itself
To the hovering fog,

Dew’s wet chill
Still hanging on the platform,

Tickling the inhalations
Of stationary commuters

As they sniffle and cough,
Lost in jumbled thoughts,

Shifting patterns
As they stir,

Shuffling words
Like whispering chalk.

The Night

The night scatters treats
A long promenade of stars
Welcoming winter

Snow

Magic blankets fall
A crazed beauty descending
As travellers weep

Nature’s Mistakes

Like a winter tree
Straining for the sky,
Looking for signs
Of a returning sun.

You are days
From breaking,
Hours from creaking
and minutes from rainfall.

Oh, the mistakes.

We switch emotions
With synchronised irony
And laugh till we cry

Diamond Scattered Skies

Posted in Poetry with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 29, 2009 by dc

These winter nights with diamond scattered skies
Taste of grape juice and isolation,

Bones that itch and gently lie on the mist,
A sad child’s painting of churchyards and misery.

Irony sweeps in the changes
And all that I wanted is not what it seems,

Dreams become gloom and my breath rises high,
Why can’t I share this night sky with someone?

The streets lie empty and filled with suspense,
Why are you blackness when jewels sit abundant?

Wherever you are
Sweet storm in a teacup,

This tear is for you,
Reflecting one chosen star

As it rolls all pathetic
Under something so grand,

We were never the night sky,
But I’m here as you yawn,

We were never forever,
Like the mist before dawn.
