Just serve your heart warm
Soaked in rum and strange rhythms
Dream like you mean it

Just twisted clothes and death breath,
The whispers of vermin
And a charlatan’s thoughts.
Mourning in the morning,
A sticky cough like caramel
And a red eyed dawn,
As the wolves that never whistle
Growl wild in my back yard.
Hatred and rainfall,
This is what weekends were made for,
Your missing smile and the itch
That grows from the fingernails
Of the sinking,
Fizzing and twitching for hours,
The carpet knows my name.
Sweet Stolen Lullaby
Posted in Poetry with tags british poet, modern poetry, new poetry, poems, poetry blog, poetry examples, short poem, sweet stolen lullaby, UK poet on October 16, 2012 by dcThe melodies and rhymes
We listened to
As they squeezed themselves
Out of the radio,
Colours spreading through the kitchen,
Our itching lips moving close,
A new love in our eyes,
United by tunes.
We sucked in the birdsong
And hummed through the city
Pulling in the rainclouds
And spitting out the sun,
Concocting a sweet stolen lullaby,
Unlocking the feelings
We’d buried
Inside.
Warning Farm
Posted in Poetry with tags british poet, british poetry, modern poetry, new poetry, poems, poetry blog, poetry examples, surreal poems, warning farm on October 7, 2012 by dcI should have known something was wrong
Drinking new world wines and eating German cheese
In a small, fragile farm in the centre of a city,
The steel grey buildings dressed in glass looming large,
The creeping sun breeding distractions and shimmers,
Dreams clinging onto the clouds in disguise.
Conversations stuttered
As the animals slept,
Awash with gentle warnings,
Lost and bored in futures thoughts,
Snoring
All resigned,
Unable to translate.
Drank Drinks Drunk

Under lamplights
With the whores and crones,
Like dogs looking lost
In a park
Where they swear there are bones,
We’ve pillaged in the village
And we’re dreaming
Of home sweet home,
Where the cupboards cry.

And tickled its soul
